Spiders oh my!!

Well it seems that Fall has come to Utah again and wow was it cold this morning.  Last week we were enjoying temps in the high 60's and now its in the 30's.  I love the colors of Fall and I love the feeling of walking in a warm house after being outside in the chilly air.

I mentioned I would tell you why things have been so crazy the past few months and since tomorrow things will get back to normal around here, well normal for my house anyways, I guess I can mention why.  My hubby has been in Korea since the first part of September employed with the government.  Because of the fact that my blog is public and I never know which crazy person might be reading my blog I figured it wouldn't be the smartest thing to post that he was gone.  Never can be to safe and I've learn in the past that I have people who read my blog but are not listed in my followers which is fine with me.

While he's been gone I've had his parents come visit for a few days and also a dear friend from Arizona.  It was great to have them come visit because it helped to break up the time and also gave me adults to talk to, LOL.  One can only watch so many cartoons and talk with a 6 year old for so long before going a little nuts.

You'd think with all the extra time I would have gotten more stitching done.  Its amazing where the time in a day goes and you have no idea what you did with it.  I do have a finish to share and as promised an update.

I've been wanting to stitch this one for a while and finally got it done.  I bought this pattern many years ago at a store in California called The Fuzzy Penguin.  The store is now closed and I miss it.  They had a great selection of used patterns and every time I went to CA I would make my hubby take me there.  I would spend a few hours in the store going thru the new and used patterns and found many goodies there including Long Spider by Annalee Waite.  Its stitched on a 28 count Tropical Orange from Wichett using DMC 5287.  I know its not the best picture but you can kind of see that is has a sparkle to it.  I was able to get this project stitched up in one evening.

I was hoping to get my spider banner done before Halloween but I just do not think its going to happen.  I have been enjoying working on it and its looking great.  I am a little more than 1/2 way done on it.  Do not ask me what it is with me and spiders with year cause I have no idea.  I am not afraid of them or anything, in fact I think they are interesting creatures and I have had several tarantulas as pets over the years.  Not really crazy about the little fury ones that jump but I am not a person to go running from the room screaming if I see one.

Well that's it for now.  I hope to have more to share in my next update and who knows maybe my hubby will have brought me something fun to share with you.  Thanks to all my family and friends for keeping me company while my hubby was gone, it means so much to me that you are there for me.

Short update

Things have been crazy around my house the past few weeks, I will tell you why later this month.  I have had company coming and going.  Last week a friend came to visit me from Arizona and we had a blast hanging out, stitching and going to places like Antelope Island and the zoo.  I have worked some on my spider banner and its coming along nicely but my other stitchy project I am so happy with that I couldn't wait to share it.  For the past year I have wanted to stitch Candy Corn by With Thy Needle but have not been able to find the right color of fabric for it because the color it calls for has been on back order for the last year.  While going thru the shelves at my LNS with one of the owners from the shop (Teri from Shephards Bush) she found a perfect fabric as a substitute that was way in the back on a shelf.  I had her cut me 2 peices of it so I will have more for future projects since its such an odd color.  Here is what I managed to make and I just love it!!

It's done on a 28 ct. gold Joblein linen using DMC floss.  I made it into a little pillow with crushed walnut shell in the bottom to weight it down.  Here is another view of it with a yo-yo pumpkin that I made.

Hope to post more soon and I promise to post an update on my Spider banner very soon.

Jeepers Creepers I've been busy

Sorry its been so long in between updates, things are just crazy this time of year I guess.  I am slowly getting my house decorated for Halloween and I am excited that fall is finally arriving in Utah.  I love this time of year where the weather changes and the trees turn wonderful shades of orange, red and yellow.

As far as my stitching goes I have been pretty busy.  I have had a blast making magnet eyeballs.  The pattern is in the JCS Halloween book and they stitch up really quick.  I was not able to find the bottle cap earrings which was ok with me because I hardly ever wear earrings anymore.  I did manage to find little kits containing bottle cap magnets for $1.00 and the local JoAnn's fabrics.  I bought several sets and as I was stitching up the first set I got the idea that they would make cute gifts to give to my sons teacher and then they could stick to the white board in the classroom and she or the kids could draw monster faces around them.  I went back and bought 15 more sets of the magnets to add to my craft stash.

Here is the little kits that I found and even if I am not using the purple glitter glue and sparkle gems that came with it I still figured I could use them.

The kits came with two printed peices of fun foam that I flipped over and used the sticky back to attack the stitching too and then I simply glued the eyes into the bottle caps.

The following morning I woke up to a big eyed frog on my fridge.  My son had taken the eyes and placed them on a frog that he had colored.

I found a new little fabric store near me.  They do not have any stitching stuff but they do have a great selection of fabrics and fun creative ideas.  I purchased a Halloween wall hanging that I hope to get working on next week.  The store is mainly a quilt shop.  While in the store the ladies had taken the fun theme buttons and made decorative pins from them so I decided to try to make some and I just love them.

This is the back of the pins, I used the flower quilting pins and I have trimmed them to fit the back of the buttons.  Here are 3 ways of attaching them.  The back of the pumpkin I simply cut the bottom shank at the button and slid the pin under the shank and glued it in place, the next one the shank was going the opposite way so I slid the pin thru the shank and added a bit from a tooth pick to hold everything tight and glued everything down.  On the last one I cut the button shank of completely and sanded the back smooth and then glued it down.  The glue I used is actually a fabric glue called Fabri-Tac.  I love this glue because it dries quickly but if you use to much of it it will bubble up on you.

Front of the pins.

I just love the way they look and cannot wait to make more of them.

I also managed to get some progress done on a large Halloween project.  I started stitching Spider Banner from Alessandra Adelaide- AAN.  So far its been a fun stitch but I decided to take a break from it for a few days because I was having to frog it.  I started Bent Creeks- Quaker Moon last night.  Here is my progress so far on the Spider Banner.

Well that is it for now, hopefully I will have more to share soon.
